Laminate Hardwood Flooring - Free floating, interlocking planks made of pressed wood byproduct. These have an artificially printed veneer with an extremely hard and durable finish layer. This is the most cost effective and easiest to install type of hardwood flooring. These floors are highly susceptible to problems caused by moisture and should not be used in any area where they could come into contact.
Engineered Hardwood Flooring- This type of hardwood flooring is a plywood core with an actual wood veneer. These also have a very strong finish layer but can be more susceptible to denting. Installation methods can include nailing, gluing, and interlocking similar to laminates. These floors are less likely to have problems due to moisture or humidity.
Solid Hardwood Flooring- These are the traditional hardwood floors. They are typically a solid plank with stained and finished top. These carry the characteristics of the woods which they are made of and therefore can be either very hard or very soft depending. Installation methods include nailing and/or gluing the boards to the subflooring.
